BRISBANE HOUSES

WILSTON HOUSE

Designed to suit the life style of a young professional couple, and a steeply sloping small lot in a character area. The site has excellent views over Mt Cootha but is exposed to the heat and glare of the afternoon sun. The design solution lay in the use of e-glass panels in those areas exposed and the incorporation of automated sun control louvres to the living level of the house. To avoid the visual monotony associated with the use of traditional weather board cladding the long western ( street ) elevation has been broken by the use of zinc cladding to the face of the stair well. The break has been reinforced by changes to the pitch of the roof either side of the stair well. This treatment helps the building maintain a scale compatible with traditional houses in the area.
